      Welcome to Zalatoy Ranch

      Picture

Located in the scenic Temecula Wine Country of Southern California,
Zalatoy Ranch was founded in 2008 with the goals of promoting the Russian Budenny horse and providing registered, elite-level stock to the public.
We currently own the only Budenny horses in California, and there
are a total of thirty-five recorded Budennies in all of North America.
Zalatoy Ranch offers limited full-service boarding, with access to
'western-movie' style trails for miles around.
The Russian Budenny is the breed of choice at the Ranch. Bred to be the ultimate cavalry officer's horse, the Budenny is an improvement upon the Don Horse of the Russian Steppes; Thoroughbred blood was introduced to refine the conformation.

After their use as cavalry mounts became obsolete, the Budenny was adapted to various sports with much success, such as show-jumping, dressage, and eventing.
We have focused our own program upon the premier jumping lines. A golden chestnut coat is typical of 80% of Budennies, giving the Ranch its name: "Zalatoy" translates as "golden" in Russian.
EuroHorse, our fellow Budenny farm, is located in Idaho. Both of our mares are daughters of their imported show-jumping stallion, Kaled. While in Russia, he was graded as 'Elite' and awarded Best in Show.
